  1. I was born in Lock Haven, PA 66 years ago, and my father was born there before me. When I was 4 years old 50) we bought an old farm on the Susquehanna River, and we drove to Jersey Shore in his truck to get an old, heavy oak pedestal table that my dad then refurbished. My clearest memory is not of the loading of the table but of the musty, dark, half-open shed where it had been stored. In that shed I saw an old dilapidated conestoga wagon. That was my first conscious encounter with historical reality, and many years later (after having moved to Florida) I became a history teacher. I think that experience made a real impact on the direction my life took. Our family spent the most memorable and most ordinary times together around that table. My daughter is now having the table shipped out to Grand Junction, CO where she lives. Out of interest I googled "conestoga wagon Jersey Shore" and I got "Covered Wagon Wanderlust."
